Saint Leo University is the oldest Catholic college in Florida and one of the largest Catholic college’s in the country. Saint Leo University is a private college that was founded in 1889. Saint Leo University is directly associated with a Benedictine convent, called the Holy Name Monastery, and a Benedictine monastery, called Saint Leo Abbey. Saint Leo University was one of the first colleges in the country to offer distance learning programs to military students during the 1970’s. Today, Saint Leo University has 17 professional education centers spread across seven diverse states. This includes Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and California. They also have over a dozen professional education centers in various military base centers. Saint Leo University 's Center for Online Learning offers many affordable bachelors and master’s degrees.

Saint Leo University had a student enrollment of around 16,000 students around the world. Only around 2,200 students are enrolled at the main campus in Florida. This 300 acre campus offers a rural setting and over 40 associate, bachelors and master’s degrees. Saint Leo University’s main campus is located in west central Florida, which is 40 minutes north of Tampa. Undergraduate and graduate students can choose from the Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences and Education and Social Services.
