Fred Korematsu underwent many drastic lifestyle changes in order to simply live his life as a U.S. citizen, from assuming a fake name and national descent to receiving plastic surgery to alter his eye shape and make him less likely to be found by U.S. military. Despite these decisions, he was still found and arrested on a street corner in San Leandro, California and held in the county jail for five months. During this time, he was visited by the director of the American Civil Liberties Union, San Francisco branch, Ernest Besig, and asked if he would like to be the first ‘test case’ for fighting the government back over the unfair treatment of Japanese-Americans, to which he agreed. On May 30, 1942, his case finally went to court, where he was convicted ‘for violating the military orders issued under Executive Order 9066’ (Korematsu Institute, Fred Korematsu v. United States).…

Learning about Sacagawea this week in both Chapter 8 and our other readings and videos was very interesting. Like I've said before in postings, in high school I was given a less descriptive and thorough history of her, though in this instance, it was not a contradictory version. I've read and learned before that she was the guide for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark's expedition across the western half of North America, that she helped them greatly and translated for them when they met Native American tribes and nations, and that she was a Native American. However, some of the details about her were new to me, like that she was married to a French Canadian man, and that she later died of 'putrid fever', or typhus, and that Clark petitioned for and was granted custody of her two children.…

Patrick, Thank you for making very insightful contributions to our discussion this week. You declare, the Apostle "Paul's reaffirms that the only thing we need concern ourselves with is the will of God. Memorizing these lines and repeating them daily they become the Christian mantra to become mindful in the mindfulness of Jesus. " I concur with your credo. A vast amount of Christians has already conformed themselves with the will of the universe, rather than the will of God.…
