Saint Francis performed many acts of charity and service to the people he encountered within his lifetime. His life was based upon serving other. Although in his early life he did not care for the needs of others, as he grew older he saw the importance and worth of every life. Every person that Saint Francis encountered mattered to him. He saw the greatness in all creation as he truly believed that all creation was God’s creation. He lived out his life like Jesus did, in a life of poverty and service. Thus, Saint Francis called us all to serve others and reach out to people of all walks of life. There have been a number of different groups that have come together to seek this change in the world, but the one that might have the biggest impact are the Millennium Development Goals and the 2015 UN Sustainability Development Goals. In 2000, a group of representatives from a number of different countries came together to set goals to end poverty and create a better life for every human being including having resources available to have stable health. These eight goals were set for 2015 to reconvene and see if they were met. These three goals are to help those in countries of war and horror be able to not live in fear every day. During Saint Francis’s time, the crusades were happening against the Muslims. Saint Francis himself went over to talk to the Sultan to try and establish peace among both the Christians and the Muslims. Saint Francis would have supported the goals of the United Nations to help settle war torn areas of the world and provide those areas with ways so that they would be able to someday support themselves. There were also six goals having to do with creation. The United Nations wanted to make sure that the earth is taken care of. We only have this earth and it needs to be able to sustain the lives of all the people on it. Special precautions have to be made in order to keep the earth healthy for future generations to come. Saint Francis had a special place in his heart for creation. The song that is about him talks about all the parts of the earth being brother and sister. This means that to him, even creation has value just like every person does. These goals follow what Saint Francis would have wanted and
