The Mission and Vision statements for an organization are designed to tell the audience about the organizations is about, what they are doing currently, and what they strive to achieve. There are several criteria that are crucial to a meaningful and comprehensive mission and vision statements. The Saint Francis de Sales School needs their mission statements revised, and they did not have a vision statement. The discussion will continue to justifying the mission and vision statements developed, as well as, why the new mission and vision stated should be adopted for Saint Francis de Sales School. The mission statement should be informative. It should project the goals of the organization, and give insight into the vision that guides the projects or decisions. The mission statement should demonstrate the organization’s purpose as well as providing inspiration. A mission statement should be simple. The mission should capture the spirit of the company in just a few words. The statement should be simple, clear and succinct. Also, the mission statement should be memorable. Use words that are inspirational and provide action (Smith, E. n.d.). Also, the mission statement should be achievable. The statement should be realistic. A strong mission statements give the employees something tangible to work on, and a substantial goal to work toward (Smith, E. n.d.). Another criteria is employee buy-in. Employee buy-in needs to occurs at all levels in order for the mission statement to be embraced by the organization. Include staff to give feedback, and add their comments and insight. The staff will have a sense of ownership that can strengthen the final statement (Smith, E. n.d.). Also, the mission statement should be clear and understandable to all staff. It is clear, and relevant. It is value based, unique and inspiring. The statement is direct and to the point, and exhibits what the school is going to do. The vision statement was to capture and express the schools plans to improve their academic curriculum and extracurricular programs. It also demonstrated the plans for improving technology, and the school welcoming cultural diversity, and still conveying the nurturing environment the school was known for. A well communicated, developed, and operationalized vision has the ability to unite, influence, and position the workforce behind the business goals.
