The origin of the Saint Bernard is they were from rome or bred by monks but were later taken to the hospice pass in the mountains and helped people when they got trapped in avalanches and they where the dog for this job because people say that they could smell a person from 5- 10 feet under snow. The average dog rescued about 10-40 in its lifetime but one dog named Barry saved around 40- 100 people he was alive from1800–1814. One year there was many avalanches that trapped dogs under snow and whipped out most of the saint bernard breed but then was later saved by breeding saint bernards and Newfoundlands.
