In the Gospel of James, you will find the story of Saint Anne. Saint Anne was born in Bethlehem. She married Joachim from Nazareth in Galilee. Joachim was a shepherd. He was given the task of supplying the temple of Jerusalem with the sheep for sacrifices.
Anne and Joachim still had no children after twenty-five years of marriage. Joachim went into the desert and pleaded with God to give them a child. After a time of fasting, an angel appeared to Joachim and assured him that they would be given a child. They were to name her Mary and dedicate her to God.

Saint Anne and Joachim would not be able to raise the child since Mary needed to be raised in order to become the mother of Jesus Christ. When Mary was fourteen, they betrothed her to Joseph of Nazareth. Mary’s story continues with the birth of her son, Jesus, and his life on earth.
The life of Saint Anne and her connection as holy mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus was very important to early Christians. In 550, a church was built in honor of St. Anne in Jerusalem. It is believed to be near where Anne, Joachim and Mary lived. Joachim and Anne serve as role models for parents and both deserve to be honored and emulated for their devotion to God and Our Lady Mary, the Mother of God.
The feast of St. Anne is July 26th. Saint Anne is the Patron Saint against poverty, childless couples, grandmothers, grandparents, mothers, pregnant women and women in labor. She is symbolized by Mary in her lap holding the infant Jesus. She was canonized in the year 1970 by Pope John
