Should Companies Use Animal Testing Necessary?

New consumer products are developed everyday and then are sold to millions of people worldwide. How do the manufacturing companies make sure that these products are safe and ready to placed on the market for the population to use or consume? For the safety of the consumer these new products need to be tested. Some believe that it is necessary to test these new products on animals. It has been said that animal testing is not harmful to animals, but studies have shown that animal testing does not really help, has a negative side effects on the animals, and that there are new alternative ways of testing. There are reasons that new products must be tested for the safety of the consumer. Manufactures and importers are required by law to test products for consumers. They have strict product safety requirements and must be able to certify that the product has passed the safety requirements before sending the products to retailers or distributors. Several of the larger companies use animal testing to test product safety on animals, but is this testing really necessary? According to Charles Low, "All cosmetic ingredients have been tested on animals at some point in time or are known to be safe based on decades of use" (Low). He also states " Industry cannot and will not retreat from the principle that human beings must not become human guinea pigs and that animal testing must continue to be an option in developing information to protect human health and product safety. It can be agreed upon that humans should not be used as guinea pigs in the testing of product safety, but also with new testing animals should not be subjected to harmful testing.
