Safety in Welding One day in a welding class at Isothermal Community College, an student was grinding metal on an angle grinder and was using the clear helmet, which is the safe way to grind. Then he took the piece of metal and started welding with the clear grinder helmet on. This caused his eyes to burn and he saw black spots for a few minutes.
