When using knives it is important to use the correct sizes and type of blade for each task, keep finger tips tucked under while cutting or chopping, called the spider position (only knuckles should be seen not nails) and the knife point should always remain on the board as a sawing motion is used to slice through food. All the chefs cut their products on chopping boards and showed impressive knife skills. Ramsay used two different knives during the production he used a serrated bread knife to cut the buns and tomato and for most of the duration he used a chef’s knife. With the one chef knife he cut every other ingredient including; bacon, onion, garlic, shallots, cheese and lettuce and this knife is never been seen washed. When cutting ingredients he kept the point down on the board and cut in a sawing motion, and majority of the time cutting his knuckles were shown but on a few occasions you could see his nails. Oliver was quite similar to Ramsay he used one chef knife throughout the entire segment and he cut every ingredient with it and it is never seen washed or wiped. Although the apparent lack of equipment hygiene he still had a great sawing motion like Ramsay and when cutting only his knuckles were seen. In comparison Schofield was not like the boys, two different chef’s knives were used one …show more content…
The necessary safety principles when cooking on the stove top include; to make sure that the pan used, fits the burner or hot plate, that the flame is adjusted so that it does not extend past the base of the pan and it is extremely important to not leave the food on the stove top unattended. In the case of the oven it is essential that when opening the oven door you stand to the side, always open the door fully and use oven mitts to maintain safe principals. Through Ramsay and Oliver’s segments they both leave their food on the stove unattended on several occasions. Leaving food unattended can result in the burning of food or more seriously a fire. Schofield on the other hand never leaves the stove unattended because her kitchen is quite small that she is always in reach of it. All chefs used a pan that fit the hot plate and or burner and the flame did not extend past the base of the pan. Schofield was the only chef that used the oven, she opened it fully before the meal was put in and before the meal was taken out, she stood on the side when opening the oven and she used a tea towel instead of oven mitts when taking it out of the oven. This could be dangerous if the tea towel was damp because a damp tea towel can become hot very quickly as heat travels in water and he could have gotten burnt.
