In the beginning Safelite were experiencing controllability, interdependency, and alignment issues that overwhelmed the company. They were down on their sales goals and needed to boost their technicians’ productivity; therefore, developing an incentive plan that is based on productivity allowed the company to not only increase their sales goal but also that of the technicians. With all of these issues, Safelite may not have appeared to be the perfect match for a piece rate system. However, the PPP plan and other proposed changes helped eliminate most of these issues, making the piece rate system a much better option for Safelite.
