The book I decided to read is called, “Safe Haven” by Nicholas Sparks. The reason I chose to read it was because I didn’t know what else to read and some friends recommended it. There is a total of 340 pages in the book and it took me about two months finish reading due to time spent doing other homework, playing volleyball and reading another book. I really enjoyed this book because I like romance novels that include suspense and action. I think this book is aimed at young adults who are going through trials. Some of the themes or main ideas in this book would probably be courage, independence and love. In the book I read, a young lady is married to an alcoholic who starts abusing her to the point where she decides to run away. This example …show more content…
She ran away to start a new life and I think that would take a lot of guts. She risked her life multiple times and took lots of risks to leave her unhealthy relationship. If she wouldn’t have left, she probably would’ve ended up getting killed. She was smart by following her instincts and being independent. If I was in her situation, I would have tried going to the cops or to neighbors to get her husband fired from his job in law enforcement and locked up in jail. It says in the book that she tried that and he threatened to killed her, but I think she should’ve tried to tell a friend or other …show more content…
This book teaches us to be grateful for our lives and relationships, along with being independent and relying on ourselves before we give up. The main character could’ve easily listened to her crazy husband and done anything he asked, but she took control and went on to pursue and happy and successful life away from him. This boom has a lot of things going on, but teaches us multiple things other than finding the right kind of men to marry. It teaches mental strength, courage, gratitude, independence, patience, and

As we all know, the theme of a story is the lesson that is being taught throughout the novel. But a theme can also be the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, or a person's thoughts. All stories have a theme, but they may not always be directly stated. This requires readers to dig deep down into the text and analyze the lessons that they have acquired through the book. Between the two excerpts, "Angelas Ashes" and "The Street", there is common theme that perseverance is important when times get tough in life.…

For my individual book I picked "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I picked this book because this book sounded more interesting than the others. Plus, I had multiple people recommend this book to me. In Graceling, the author uses to conflict to teach us that if you’re afraid of yourself, then it could mess with the way you image yourself which provides the theme of this story. For example, Katsa suffers from having to do all the Kings killings. Katsa doesn’t know how to control her anger and she becomes afraid. Katsa had to go out and kill the people that betrayed the King; but Katsa didn’t like doing this, and she couldn’t keep her temper.…

-Beginning= Firdaus is passive towards men, confused about her body. “ I saw Mohammadain... my whole body shuddered with a faraway yet familiar pleasure arising from an unknown source, from some indefinable spot outside my being. And yet I could feel it somewhere in my body, a gentle pulsation beginning like a tender pleasure, and ending like a tender pain. In the book speak I have heard many people say that the main character Melinda Sordino shows more fear and resentment than courage in the book speak. In my perspective she was very brave for even putting up and living life after what had happened to her. Many people would become depressed over what had happened or just given up on life itself but not her and Melinda shows courage throughout the book not in any bold extravagant ways but through her own little examples. In the book when they talk about what happened to her at the party that night she was raped she left the tree shaded area and went back to the house where the party was and called 911 and already that shows courage being able to even try to do something even anything over such a serious thing like rape is so difficult and brace especially for the victim to do.…

‘How does Catherine mature over the course of the novel?’ The novel Northanger Abbey – written by Jane Austen in 1817 – tells the story of a young woman who travels to Bath with her wealthy neighbours, and how she grows and matures into adulthood over the course of the book by taking responsibility for her many mistakes and actions. Predominantly, this essay is a tale of one girl’s maturity into a young adult. She makes very many mistakes along the path to growing up, however, she does show great responsibility by the end of the novel, so much as to win the heart of the man she loves.…
