The political cartoon titled “Forcing Slavery Down the Throat of a Free Soiler” surfaces during the tumultuous build-up to the American Civil War. In the wake of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which ultimately granted popular sovereignty – the ability of the people to consent to its authoritative bodies – over the issue of slavery, slavery sympathizers and abolitionists combatted each other to gain advantages. The cartoonist makes effective use of graphic imagery, labels, and language to demonstrate the true purpose of the cartoon; the Democratic Party impinges on the free will of the people through malicious actions designed to promote pro-slavery sentiment among the settlers of newly added territories to the United States. The cartoonist relies…

To even be considered a winner in the big shows you MUST have the foundations down. Almost every time a harsh and violent slave owner is talked about, it is assumed that it is a white man inflicting all of the violence and torture. Although that is true that white male slave owners did impost a lot of this violence, they were not alone. It has recently been shed to light that female slave owners were just as violent, if not more violent than their male counterparts. In Thavolia Glymph’s work Out of the House of Bondage: The Transformation of the Plantation Household, she gives empirical evidence that white women in the South were more cruel than many historians had made them out to be.…

When tightening or adjusting any equipment it is always done on the left side of a horse. After the cinch has been pulled you will then reach under the horse and hook the back cinch.…
