Saddam Hussein, the fifth president of Iraq was born on April 28, 1937 and died on December 30, 2006 at the age of 69. Saddam’s early life was filled with disappointment. His father, a shepherd, disappeared before his birth. He also lost a brother to cancer and had a mother who suffered from depression. He was sent to live with an uncle before returning home to his mother and her new husband who was abusive to Saddam. The abuse from his stepfather prompted Hussein to flee to Baghdad where he lived with Talfah, a devout Sunni Muslim.
It is believed that Talfah was extremely influential in Hussein’s political beliefs.
Hussein was forced to attend school to avoid punishment by the government. He attended al-Karh Secondary school in Baghdad
