Marco polo was born 1254 in Venice Italy was perhaps the worlds greatest adventurer. He traveled across much of Europe and Asia between the years 1271-95. Born to a family of merchants its of little surprise that Marco Polo would join the families trading business alongside his father and uncle. Although most of his travels where in Asia before his death on January 8. 1325 Marco Polo was able to see a large portion of the world. Perhaps he was able to view the portrait of Madonna Enthroned (Ognissanti Madonna). Painted around 1310 by Giotto for the Florentine Church of Ognissanti. The painting depicts a woman (Mary) sitting upon a thrown holding a child (Jesus). The pair are surrounded by angels as well as other onlookers. Jesus and Mary
