People make sacrifices at any point in their lives. They make sacrifices because they feel a connection or obligation with someone or something. Although one may think that making a sacrifice is silly or unnecessary many people will do make them despite the risks involved. People make sacrifices for love, this sacrifice can be for freedom, for religion, and even physical. Everyday men lose their lives for the sake of our country. Thousands upon thousands of men go to war not knowing whether they’re going to come back home to their families. They sacrifice their lives for the sake of our country. Many of those who go to battle and never return tear a lot of families apart. Many servicemen and women who served in Vietnam and the families of …show more content…
Someone who sacrifices their happiness for someone else is by far the truest type of love. In many relationships one of the spouses sacrifices his or her religion for the love of that other person. On the other hand, sometimes people don’t sacrifice religion for someone they love, but instead for something. In the bible it states that God sacrificed his son, Jesus, for the people. People sacrifice something of value so they can offer it directly to God in ritual or indirectly to God through others. Humans do not seek sacrifice just like Jesus did not come to earth seeking a way to suffer and die. Sacrifice is done by choice, but sometimes sacrifices chooses us. The gospels tell the story of how Jesus reached the point of willingly heading toward Jerusalem where he knew that death at the hands of the authorities awaited. Frequently in our lives we choose to sacrifice one good for the sake of some other good that is either a higher good or one more necessary in our particular situation (Gudorf, 3). In the Gift of the Magi, Della sacrificed her hair to buy her husband a platinum fob chain for Christmas and her husband, Jim, sacrificed his watch to buy Della a very expensive set of combs. On September 9, 2011 many firefighters went into the burning twin towers to try and rescue people that were trapped in the gulfing flames which were rapidly growing as the seconds passed by. Little did they know the buildings would eventually come tumbling down right on them. Their only priority was to rescue anyone who was trapped in the buildings which meant putting their lives at risk. A total of 343 members of the Fire Department of New York were called to the World Trade Center that dreadful day. They sacrificed their lives to try to save others. Firefighters weren’t the only ones who lost their lives. Paramedics that were helping the ones who were hurt also passed away on September 9. It has been four years since that day, and every firefighter is remembered until this day for their bravery and courage for sacrificing their life for others. Another example of physical sacrifice or self-sacrifice is a place in London. In a quiet area of East London is a nice and peaceful place that goes by the name Postman’s Park. If

It never really sunk into me how much veterans sacrifice for us. I think that we need to show as much respect to people that have served in the military forces to make us be able to be free. Or be able to pursue whatever we would like to.…
