Oedipus the King Essay
In Sophocles’ play, Oedipus the King, Oedipus is the main character in which he is known as the tragic hero. Oedipus expresses his concern about the plague and declares that he has already told Creon to go to the oracle in an effort to get the solution to end the plague. As Oedipus speaks, Creon returns with the oracle's message which is that the plague will eliminate when the murderer of Laius, the former king of Thebes, is killed or banished. Oedipus straight away swears to take action to find the murderer and save the city from the plague.
The story begins with Oedipus being a prideful, brave, amazing person, however as the story progresses, it shows his flaws and how his future will turn out. His life completely flips when he is told what his destiny is, and …show more content…
In his enthusiasm, however, Oedipus does not have caution for what the road has ready for him. When Creon says that they should talk about what the oracle has said to Oedipus, he rejects the idea and insists to find out what the problem is so he can fix it.
Oedipus has many qualities which are that he is caring and compassionate. Once he finds out about the city being destroyed by a plague, he starts taking action to find out how he can fix this issue. He is confident, powerful and strong. He pronounces himself, “Here I am myself-/ you all know me,- the world knows my fame:/ my Oedipus.” (7-9) He is being prideful at the beginning which is good because he wants to show the public to not to worry, however, his ego takes into affect later on and changes his life.
He is also a trustworthy, “you can trust me, I am ready to help.” (13) Oedipus wants to show the public to not worry and that he is the man that will protect everyone and is the best. He is also a man of action because he did what he had to do to save the city. At the very end he did a self exile to save the city. And he left everything behind for
