Sacrifice In A Tale Of Two Cities, Beowulf, And Hamlet

Many people in the world today believe that society consists of a sizeable amount of selfish beings who only care about themselves. They believe that those types of greedy people are the cause of war, death, and chaos among society. However, they are not able to see the everyday self-sacrifices that several people make in order to benefit other people and form all of humanity into a better place. They do not see the the selflessness these people have and the kind and caring acts they make in order to help others. An incredible amount of sacrifice are seen in literature today specifically in distinct characters of the novels A Tale of Two Cities, Beowulf, and Hamlet. Each of these characters at different times showed traits of strength, bravery, endurance, and humility. Sydney Carton, Beowulf, and Hamlet were not large and muscular characters seen on the television today with shocking superpowers, but they were everyday heroes who were willing to sacrifice themselves for the better of others; they are ordinary character who did extraordinary things. In Lengers article “The death of Beowulf” it describes that it is not merely Beowulf’s strength that was used in order to kill the Dragon, but it is his courage, assertiveness, and the sacrifice of his life that was what ultimately defeated the Dragon. Beowulf had always been a well-known man and an iconic person since his early years, and he somewhat transformed into a more mature character in the story. He is especially reputable among the Geats, and it was through his final self-sacrifice that he was able to be remembered in the end for his love and passion towards the people and their safety. Besides Beowulf and Carton becoming heroistic characters in their stories, the final character who sacrificed himself to help others is Prince Hamlet.
