You might not think that a conflict of either to stay alive or not and a conflict of to get a gift for someone or not have a lot in common, but they do. Della’s dilemma in “The Gift of the Magi” it about whether she should give up something she loves to get something for the person she love, while Rainsford’s conflict in “The Most Dangerous Game” is whether he should fight to live or just let himself be caught and die. In both cases they have to decide if they want to sacrifice something or not, whether it be sacrificing a life or hair. Sacrifice; noun; an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure. While this is the official definition of sacrifice, it is not how most of us know the word “sacrifice” today. These days, sacrifice is made on a much smaller scale, such as sacrificing time to help a sibling with their homework, or sacrificing money to buy someone a gift.
