Sacramento State Music Concert Essay

In the past, I want to firstly address that I personally have attended some music concerts on Sacramento State’s campus. However, I had never before attended to a symphonic wind ensemble concert. Before the concert began, I had noticed a large amount of chairs on stage as I found this quite interesting. As it was about to begin, a large amount of musicians wearing black appeared on the stage and were performing a small warmup. As performers, they were a guest group. Once the lights were turned on and centered on the performers, three conductors were welcomed to the stage. Soon after that, music pieces started to play out. For the first piece of music, it started it off with a loud pitch with a fast tempo and resembled the music piece from the Star Wars movie. Personally, I was very fond of this …show more content…
In fact, it was the Star Wars: The Force Awakens music piece. Most definitely, this was my most favorite piece of music during the entire concert.
Once the guest group was finished, the Sacramento State group came to the stage with its conductor alongside with new instruments such as the trombone and the saxophone. Their first piece sounded similar to a Disney music with high pitches. It made me image an evil queen lurking in the darkness. Suddenly, the conductor was switched with another and began to play a piece that sent me the image of an undercover spy sneaking into a security base.
As for their next piece, it was low pitch and was quiet, but it surprised me with an escalated high pitch towards the end. As for their last piece, it included a strong texture of monomorphism and some homomorphism with breakup iterations during the piece of music. Personally, it sent me an image of chaos and destruction. At the end, both groups united and played a piece of music with double the instrument being

The music design of One Flat Thing Reproduced was quite complimentary to the entire essence of the composition. Right at the beginning when you watch the two dancers eerily crawl under the tables in the shadows, you begin to hear equally as unearthly noises courtesy of Thom Willems (music director). These sounds, which can hardly be considered music, continue throughout the entire piece. The music would change at times and never distinctly following any type of pattern, while it also allowed the dancers movements to be heard. This greatly allowed for the emotion and story to seep through without being suffocating, leading to a more natural work.…

The Baylor University Early Ensembles performance was titled “Selva morale e spirtuale: Festa Natale di Monteverdi”. There were 5 performers; three of whom played violin, one recorder, and one harpsicord player. All of the instruments were replicas of instruments played during the time period in Venice. The violin’s strings were made out of guts and the humidity of the room caused them to frequently be out of tune, so before every song they need to be tuned with the harpsicord. The concert was filled with songs mostly by Monteverdi, and a few songs that were common in the time period.…

Overall the concert was amazing. I sometimes go to orchestrated concerts and the performance that I have seen specifically the NYU Symphony and the performances that these students did, was overall really great and flawless. My favorite piece by far and not because I’m instrument bias was, “The Joyful Escape”. The mini solo the clarinetist had was amazing and she didn’t mess up at that part at all. From “Two Chorales” to “Iona Alma mater” that clarinet played as smooth as it can ever be.…

The tempo of the song was very upbeat and face paced, again, staying in the Classical time period, which focused on entertaining and pleasing the person who heard the music. Also, in the classical period themes were repeated over and over, which was the case in Mozart piece. The fact that when I heard these symphonies and concertos at home, I was comprehending nothing but falling asleep. However, when it turned to join in the live classical music concert, I could not be able to take my eyes off during the performance because I was afraid of missing the single time in such a wonderful moment. I believed that all performers who were standing on that stage, they played with all the passion at the bottom of their heart because they performed naturally and their souls seemed to drift along with the melody and mixed with each other.…

Although I was going to participate in four of the pieces throughout the concert, I did not know what the other songs were going to be and was excited to find out. The concert had many amazing aspects as well as some not so admirable things. The “Mid-Winter Concert” was special because it brought together choirs from all ages and experiences and put them into one big event. When the concert started, it was introduced by a young lady from Bonneville. After she was done, the Women’s Choir sang their songs, followed by the Intermediate and Men’s choir.…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

The Curtis Chamber Orchestra, played Violin Concerto No.1, No.3, and No 5. All three musical pieces consisted of unique characteristics, but I must say my favorite and the most memorable one is, Concerto No.1 in B-flat major, K. 207 with Hsuan- Hao Hsu on the violin. The downbeat, instantly caught the audience’s attention, bringing focus to the tempo and to its upbeat and joyful theme. It has a very charming and soothing sound to it, that creates more excitement, leaving the audience wanting more.…

Seeing all the instruments play together was just amazing especially when it came to the drums. The timbales just sounded so amazing and the way the man was playing it was amazing because of how fast he was moving. At all times the clave was the one carrying the beat and the other instruments followed. While the musician played the church were given tambourines to play along and some people even had maracas and guiros. This was the last performance of the night and the concert sure did end with a…
