The prosecution key piece of evidence was a simple tweed cap but many believe Sacco and Vanzetti were innocent and only being targeted because of their radical political beliefs. Their trail was completely based on circumstantial evidence, only based on the fact that witnesses said that the criminals “appeared to be Italians. The trail completely fails “due process” which is the fair treatment through the judicial system such as the judge calling the two “wops” and “anarchist bastards” as well as the counsel falling asleep. On July 21,1921 after only three hours of deliberation the jury delivers the

On the 17th of December 1986, Olaf Dietrich arrived in Melbourne from a flight from Thailand and was charged the next day with four counts of drug trafficking. He was alleged to have swallowed 70 grams of heroin in small packets in attempt to smuggle them through customs. Olaf Dietrich was found, in his first trial, guilty by a jury of importing no less than a trafficable amount of heroin as pursuant to section 233B of the Customs Act of 1901. Dietrich at first alleged that the drugs had been planted by the police. He was found guilty of two other counts and sentenced in the Victorian County Court.…

Throughout all of the readings in this course there was a common theme of nationalism, some more extreme than others, and this trial was just another example of a government demonstrating their power over their citizens to comply or face the repercussions. Additionally, the use of propaganda and the media was vital in this case as it was in WWI, WWII and the wars that followed. It never ceases to amaze me how easily people can be persuaded by ads, political cartoons, newspapers and the media at…

And while the Sweet Trail had conflicting evidence namely the witness statements it was not nearly to the degree at which the Sacco and Vanzetti Trial was. Also in the case of the Scopes trial there was no question on whether a law had been broken only if the law was just. On the whole all of these examples of inadequate and controversial evidence go to show that of the three cases the Sacco and Vanzetti Trial was the most…

Undoubtedly, Adnan Syed’s right to a fair trial was denied because of the lack of evidence presented to the authorities. In “The Alabi”, Adnan Syed was accused of the murder of Hae Min Lee. Duccio and Giotto paint, arguably, their most influential pieces during the first decade of the twelfth century . Giotto is commissioned by Enrico Scrovegni in Padua to fresco the Arena Chapel to reconcile himself with God over the sins of his father’s usury. In contrast, Duccio is commissioned by the Church fathers of Sienna to paint a panel altarpiece for the Duomo . Giotto utilizes his private patronage to develop new principles of dramatic narrative while Duccio sticks to the Bible stories and develops a variation of Gothic style. Despite differences in technique, location and function of the work, and patronage, these two artists were united in creating a new form of visual language helping to launch the period art historians now call…

Consider the role of the narrator in both Benito Cereno and Bartleby. Follow your leader – three words that echo through both of these texts and symbolise Melville’s role as a narrator in distinct ways. His narrative diction in Benito Cereno and Bartleby is mechanically impressive but speaks volumes as to how he felt in relation to the new capitalist society America was rapidly evolving into and the problem of slavery to which the old America was clinging to. In these texts the lawyer in Bartleby and Captain Delano in Benito Cereno are both so blinded by pre-conceived notions which have been hammered into them by society that they are blatantly unaware of the reality that is staring them in the face. They have become so accustomed to following…

The jury disregarded all of the reasonable doubt shown, and declared them guilty without even much deliberation. Despite this verdict, the defense had expected this and were ready to appeal the verdict. New evidence arose after the trial, and this evidence should have cleared the two of all guilt.…
