Sacagawea Analysis

Art is driven by the idea of changing the way people think and perceive the world. It pushes people to feel something that they would not normally feel. Art grants the opportunity to see a different perspective from someone they may never have the chance to meet. Sacagawea is a piece of artwork that does just that. It is located on the Lewis and Clark Community College campus right outside of Baldwin Hall. The artist and sculptor Glenna Goodacre created Sacagawea. This piece Sacagawea brings up feelings of bravery and sacrifice. Sacagawea is a bronze colored statue that represents the famous guide, Sacagawea, for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. This is the basis for the statue being located on the Lewis and Clark campus because she was the main reason they had a successful expedition. One reason being that her husband made her go out on the expedition without much of a choice. At a young age she had to leave her life and everything she knew to go with two men she had never met. She also had to sacrifice her somewhat safe environment for the expedition. The people who went on the expedition did not always have it very easy. They had very low food sources where they all almost starved to death. They also almost froze to death because the expedition took longer than expected, and they were not prepared for the winter. Sacagawea is a beautiful piece of artwork that stands proudly on the Lewis and Clark campus. It represents a very amazing woman that never received enough recognition for the work she did. It stands tall and represents a very big and important part of our history. This piece of artwork really does make people feel something. Sacagawea brings up lots of feelings about being brave and sacrificing. It really makes you think about her life and about her bravery and
