Cornerstone OnDemand is the worlds leading provider of software that helps organizations recruit, train, and manage their employees. Cornerstone also is known as CSOD, currently has its solutions used to train over 33.5 million people in 192 countries, and in 43 languages. CSOD is snowballing, and since its founding in 1999, it has grown from three employees to almost 2,000 globally. These employees reside all over the earth with large presences in the United States, United Kingdom, and Israel. At the end of 2016, CSOD reported revenue of $423,124,000 which was a 25% increase from 2015. This is a pattern of success as 2015 saw a 29% increase in revenue from 2014. ("Cornerstone OnDemand, Inc. - Investors - Financials - Financial Summary", 2017) This rapid growth is going to continue, and investment firms believe this as well as on November 8th, 2017 it was announced that Silver Lake and LinkedIn would be making a $300 million strategic initiative in CSOD to fund growth initiatives and repurchasing common shares. First, it utilized a market-plus compensation plan which allows it to pull some of the best talents in the industry to come work for the organization. Next, CSOD allows many of its positions to be filled by remote employees. This allows CSOD not to be constrained by the talent in a few geographic areas. Also, the brand recognition of CSOD is a major strength as they are recognized as a leader in the talent management space. ("Cornerstone OnDemand Reviews", 2017)
Weaknesses
However, CSOD also has many weaknesses. Cornerstone’s most purchased product suite is their learning management system. Yet, CSOD does not have any learning content of its own, so it either has to resell other vendors courses or allow clients to purchase their content separately and host the content on CSOD’s LMS. This puts CSOD at the mercy of the content providers as they could refuse to work with CSOD which would eliminate their ability to resell their content. Another weakness is that it is sometimes hard to manage remote employees as you cannot observe them as you can in an office. A majority of CSOD’s employees are remote and therefore, CSOD relies on the employees being motivated to work to get projects
