Learning Lab Reflection

Every school has or should have a center for students with disabilities. I was fortunate enough to have one in my high school that changed my life called, Learning Lab. I had never been a student who received straight A’s or was top of my class. In Elementary school I never struggled, It wasn 't until I got to middle school that I realized how difficult math was for me. Then, I arrived at high school and realized how difficult school really was for me. I enjoyed going to school, In 9th grade, when I was in pre-algebra I would get made fun of and was constantly told that I was stupid. I was so embarrassed that I was in the lowest of the lowest math class, and could barley do the work because it was so difficult for me. My teachers thought that I just wasn’t trying or that I didn’t care, little did they know that was the complete opposite. I can’t quite remember when I was introduced to a program that my high school had called Learning Lab, but getting introduced to Learning Lab changed my high school career in the best way possible. Learning Lab was a program at my high school for students who have mental or physical disabilities that makes school harder for them. The teachers, Brother Michael and Mrs. Nourious were some of the most generous people I have ever met. I could tell they actually cared and wanted me to succeed in school. I took most of my test in Learning Lab and would get help with most of my homework. After a few months, I could see my grades were improving. Taking test and doing my homework in an environment were I didn’t feel anxious and wasn’t get as distracted really benefited me.
