There is fruitless expenditure from more paper being destroyed due to mistakes and wrong filling of application forms, the storage that keeps processed application forms are not easily accessible. Inconvenience around the DHA branch offices due to long queues, parking and safety. System is often down and applicants are turned back and requested to try again the following day, this means the applicants incur more cost for travelling to the branch offices and more of their time is wasted. The staff morale is low. At the end, more South Africans end up not having confidence on DHA due to the tedious process and …show more content…

Convenience of direct online payment, no cash handling and offline speedpoint pay machines at the DHA branch offices.
Security
The applicant is in total control of their Smart ID card, no mailing but collection from the applicant’s choice of a bank or branch office. The eChannel systems will be a good solution to the South Africans

Conclusion
The department of Home affairs plays a fundamental role in security, economic development and service delivery. Much ground has been covered since the design and roll-out of high technology Smart ID Card through eChannel project. Since the inception of eChannel, four thousand and eighty eight citizens have registered through the eChannel portal, of which 140 online applications have been successfully concluded across the banks.
