After high school, I plan to pursue a college degree at the University of Texas in Austin in order to double major in business and chemistry. The reason I wish to major in these two disciplines is because of my involvement in the technology startup industry and my work promoting STEM. Through my participation in an honors or research program, my goal is to conduct a research project analyzing the disparities that exist for minorities in the STEM industry, as well as noteworthy solutions organizations are using to eradicate those disparities. Furthermore, this will be apart of the stepping stones I need to then enter the pharmacology field upon graduation.

In addition to academics, I enjoy working in fields related to education, entrepreneurship,

As a low-income student myself, I believe it is my duty to give back to my community and inspire other students to reach success. Therefore, I plan on founding an organization that will provide youth in similar situations to access to comprehensive resources that will help shape their future. I envision this organization offering college preparation information, career advice, and leadership workshops.

Overall, earning this scholarship will enable me to achieve greater success in life, as well as help others do the same. Most importantly, I will be able to make my mother proud. After years single handedly raising my three siblings and I, I want to be able to show her how her sacrifice has benefited the world. Thank you for the honor of allowing me to share my story. Hopefully, the CBC Foundation will assist me in my plans for achieving higher bars of

I first heard of ASMS through one of my previous ninth grade teachers, Mrs.Howard, who had both of her children go there. Highly recommending it she handed me a packet telling more about the school, which i continued to learn that it seemed to be just the right school. After looking deeply into the school and discovering its amaizing academic and extracurricular programs I was astonished. When I brought up the school every single person I knew said it was right for me and that I needed to take the chance when I could. So I decided to apply for the school to help with my goal to a career in astrophysics or aerospace engineering.…

Whether it was taking time out of my day to attend the first general body meeting of debate team or filling out the application for National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I began my success by putting my foot out into the unknown without fully expecting what I was going to get out of it. Having the adventurous mind to try out new things has opened my mind greatly to leadership opportunities, service, scholarship, and social justice. Topics and initiatives that I would have never thought to be conversing about or partaking in are now major parts of my everyday life. Through NSCS and every other organization or club I’m a part of, I have become a more active, accommodating, and out spoken person. To a first generation college student, obtaining success in college can often seem like a daunting task and many might shrivel in fear of the expectations.…

As undergraduate students, we believe ambition and determination are the two most prevalent qualities needed to establish and accomplish our goals. We also believe that education is the foundation for a better community. Application is the first step in working towards a goal, and the first step we took in becoming students here at San Diego State. Unfortunately, this step is not as obvious – or realizable – for many high school students living in lower income neighborhoods.
