Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community. During senior year of high school, I decided to volunteer at Robert Wood Johnsons Children’s Specialized Hospital for a couple of months. At Children’s Specialized Hospital, I cleaned up toys, organized any equipment that assisted the children and I …show more content…

However, sometimes working with someone individually was difficult, especially when it was exam week for them, because there were so many people that it was challenging to explain each concept and problems one on one. I have long been fascinated by the way politics and economics influence individuals and how decisions made by political leaders can change the course of history. I am intrigued by the historical development of political and economic thought, as evidenced when studying the history of China. Milton Friedman’s Capitalism and Freedom provided me perspective on the connectivity of economic and political freedoms needed to strengthen democratic institutions. I also enjoyed Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-First Century for his outlook on global inequality. His argument that rapid economic growth diminishes the importance of wealth was engaging and provided concrete historical data to back concepts such as the Kuznets curve, Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve from macroeconomics.…

I am confident in my preparation for this class because I know how to use the library to research information. In the second grade my class was assigned an animal to research for a research paper. Everyday during the time set aside for our papers, we would travel to the library and scour the shelves for different books about our animal, reading them thoroughly and taking notes on what we picked out as important. This experience stuck out to me as an important moment in my writing experience because it was the first time I was asked to “use library research resources to find relevant and credible sources for writing” (Outcomes 101). I am confident this research paper has taught me how to take this class by introducing me to the research skills…

In my classroom, objectives are clear to all students, so I ranked myself at proficient. I start each class with them visible on the board. Sometimes, we cover the prior day’s objectives in a starting activity as an informal assessment of knowledge, and other days we start with what the day’s objectives are and what I hope students will gain from the lesson. I follow our school’s Marzano method in regards to having visible objectives to students that are clear and concise.
