SSS Summer Bridge Program Analysis

It was such a new and exciting chapter in my life when I finally decided to committ to Lock Haven, but the novelty of starting college slowly started to wear off when it dawned on me that the transition was going to be bittersweet. I was extremely nervous for move in day to come because I knew settling in and being away from home could either go bad or very smooth. Luckily, I was fourtunate to be apart of the SSS Summer Bridge program because my transition as a new incoming freshman could not have gone any better. The program has taught me the ins and outs of being a successful student at Lock Haven. During the Summer Bridge program, I was able to get a feel on what being a college student was like. Although at first, waking up extra early to …show more content…
One of the workshops that stuck out to me was the one that we had to write down some of our goals and dreams and ways we can achieve them. That specific workshop taught me the importance of baby steps to take that would help lead me to reach my short term and long term goals. Ever since, I have been writing down little personal tasks to complete which would eventually led me to reaching my goals. Another one of my favorite SSS activities was when we took a cultural trip to New York City. It was a very fun and exciting experience because we had the opportunity to get off campus and explore a city that is completely different from Lock Haven. Last but not least, what especially helped me through my first semester at Lock Haven were my peer mentors, Dr. Gainer and Dr. Story because they all were constantly encouraging me and the other members of the program to be our best and they were openly there for me whenever I needed help academically or emotionally. The SSS program is one of the best things to happen to me as far as being a new college student. I hope to one day become a SSS peer mentor to help and encourage other new

Transitioning occurs in all stages of life whether it’s from a baby crawling to walking, or an elder moving from their home to a retirement facility. One transition in life that most of us face is the evolution from high school to a college or a university. With moving into a new phase of my life I was optimistic about the difficulties of becoming comfortable with the population, the diversity, and the college life in general that Wayne State provides. I made the leap to a big city called Detroit from a small city called my home. I live in a small urban city, downriver, called Wyandotte.…

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me yesterday. I really enjoyed our conversation and learning some more about Jefferies. It was also great learning more about the Generalist Program, which I believe helps associates to find a group where they will fit the best, without having to decide upfront where they want to be.…

At last, the time has come for the start of what parents have talked about since birth and what teenagers wished would come faster, graduation. However, it’s not just graduating high school it’s a stepping stone towards a life-long career. In addition, the first decision high-school graduates must make is whether or not to go to college. Nevertheless, the cost of attendance, course of study, and location are all important factors in choosing between Northeast Lakeview college and the University of Texas San Antonio. Over time college has gradually became more expensive; paying back student loans can be a burden on students and take them years to pay back the financial aid that was acquired.…

Dear, Point Pleasant Beach High School I would like to thank Beach's program for touring me around the school during the open house and Dr. Grosshandler for taking the time out of his day to discuss my possible future with Point Pleasant Beach and its amazing academic program. Beach has gained a reputation of producing intelligent students and sending them off to college. Being considered for a program with such a productive system brings a monumental amount of joy to me and my family. Over the course of this school year, I have begun to realize the difference between my old school, Point Pleasant Boro, and my new school, Spring Lake Heights. Heights has a smaller population which benefits the students for multiple reasons.…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

Tragic turn of life Loss, pain and suffering are stepping stones, slowly building and shaping an individual’s life. These tragic events help transform life, in sometimes drastic ways, that it has the power to mold and often determine one’s destiny itself. In the book, The Other Side of the Bridge, Mary Lawson incorporates this by demonstrating how tragic events continuously play a major role in shaping the destiny of the central characters. Despite the fact that traumatic events scar Ian Christopherson and Arthur Dunn for life, these incidents help them achieve what fate has set in store for them. On the contrary, such events cause a drift in the lives of two brothers, Jake Dunn and Arthur Dunn, defying whatever had been predestined for them.…

Spring Arbor University makes a big deal about their Core classes, but at times it feels like they are a joke. Then students begin to realize the purpose behind all of it. Core 100 is a class designed to get the college career started off with the correct footing. The activities and events that affected my life the most were the Monday lectures, the Real Relationships readings, and the in class discussions. None of these alone would have been sufficient, but in tandem they provide an illuminating education into how our interactions with others shape who we are and what we become.…

Recently, I had a learning experience from my internship that will help me even more in my pursuit in the field of social work. The day that this event occurred it helped me be able to be the teacher rather than the student to my intern advisors. Being that Voyage house is a support program for clients, we help to provide them with the necessities of food and household items from those that have no income. Therefore, we take them to Walmart and give them a budget that they are able to work with since they only need to provide resources just for them to living off. This was on a Friday where I had to miss group because I had something to do at school that morning; therefore, I just met my intern advisor later that day at Walmart.…
