SPCAA Background Check

The South Plan Community Action association ensures that all staff who are hired obtain a criminal background check. In accordance to Head Start 1302.90 (b) (2) a program must complete background check for each employee, consultant or contractor, at least once every five years which must include each of the four checks listed in paragraph (b) (1) and (2) of the head start performance standards, the SPCAA Criminal background checks are done for prospective employees prior to hire in accordance to federal and state requirements. The SPCAA grantee background check consist of:
(a) A name-based on criminal history check: The department of Public Safety (DPS) conducts a comparative search between a person’s name and the DPS database of crimes committed in the state of Texas.

(c) A DFPS central registry check: DFSP conducts a comparative search between a person’s name and the DFPS central registry, which is a DFPS database of people who have been Licensing to have abused or neglected a child
(d) An out-of-state central registry check: a comparative search between a person’s name and another state’s database of person who have been found to have abused or neglected a child.
