SLO Development Plan

Good Afternoon Philip:

Happy Friday.

Here are some updates for the week. Please let me know if you would like me to elaborate on any of the bullets:

• Scott, Kate and I met to review SBAC, SAT, Grade 9 PSAT, Grade 10 PSAT, and Grade 11 PSAT/NMSQT data. This data serves as the basis for intervention planning and baseline establishment of SLOs (assuming we’re allowed to use the data as part of the SLO development process, which is still TBD).
• The Tech Department met and reviewed a long list of tech-related items. During our weekly meeting with Dawn on Monday, I would like to review the action steps and recommendations that arose from this discussion.
• I presented the BOE information on Fountas and Pinnell Training, the Chromebook rollout,

Additional meeting time has been scheduled to finish our discussions next week. I am researching the extent to which standardized tests may be used in SLO development.
• Chris and I met with Brian Taber, Administrative Director of Physical Rehabilitation at Middlesex Hospital, to plan for a Health Career Fair at PHS with a tentative date for the beginning of November. We will coordinate with Kate.
• I met with Sue McDougall and discussed expanding the workshop full-day professional development facilitator job description to include instructional videos to support technology application in the classroom. She supported the idea and does not believe that we need an MOU. I will fill you in during our Monday meeting.

As a follow-up, I need to discuss the technology inventory process, a game plan for the use of the two-hour delayed openings to begin mapping curriculum to standards and assessments in Atlas Rubicon, an idea to start a Portland Hall of Fame, and launching the development of instructional videos series make by Portland teachers for Portland teachers to support the one-to-one device initiative.

I’ll be watching my son play baseball and daughter play soccer this weekend. If you need anything, I’ll have my cell.

Enjoy the weekend.

Weekly Reflection #9: Today, Michael Fenton talked about Desmos and what we should think about when we incorporate technology in the classroom. Reflect on the talk, the activities, and his philosophy of how we should incorporate tech in the classroom. Before Michael Fenton speech, I had hear about something people say, that someday we will live in a world where almost everything will be done through technology and where there will be not a lot of human interaction. Nevertheless, I did not think that this “idea” in one way or another, it was already developing in places such as a school. I believe that after I saw the photos Michael Fenton showed us of how in some schools students are isolated from each other when they are interacting with…

One year ago, I moved to a tiny community in northeastern Montana. It’s not what most people picture when they picture Montana. I am not surrounded by mountains and pine trees, but rather high rolling plains, oil rigs, and cattle ranches. It is a far cry from the Midwest where I grew up. It is even a farther cry from the South American jungle where I lived and taught for the six years prior to living here.…
