SIBI Reflection

When I found out about the See It Be It programme, I felt an immediate connection. It struck me not only as an amazing opportunity to acquire new tools to advance professionally but also as the spark of a transformation I am eager to be part of.

I try to raise my colleagues’ awareness on gender equality at every chance I get (from speaking up against sexist ideas to recommending female applicants for job openings), but I feel that such suggestions are often brushed off despite my conviction that this is an urgent matter. I firmly believe that the endorsement of an empowering initiative like SIBI can make my voice heard when it would otherwise be ignored.

Looking ahead, I think I am one step away from reaching a decision-making position. Getting

Within most companies only a few upper levels positions exist and very few are equivalent positions. That means most women are unable to prove, within the law, their exact male counterpart is earning more because their peer exists outside of their company. By addressing this issue the Equal Pay Act’s original goals can finally be met. With that, women will be much closer to receiving the same pay as men, and the business world will be one step closer to being…

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

We want to try and make sure that it’s perceptible. I was nominated as a Goodwill Ambassador for Oxfam Australia around six months ago. And, the more I addressed feminism, the more I discovered that battling for women’s rights is often made synonymous with man-hating. I know one thing for certain, and it is that this view of feminism must stop.…

In Irene Padavic and Barbara Reskin’s paper “Gender Differences in Moving Up and Taking Charge,” it talks about the different treatments women received in work place. In firms, even though men and women both have the same position that give them the power to make decisions, men are always the one who is making the decision, and women is just their “glorified secretaries” (Padavic 2002). Based on the social stratification, women are considered inferior than men, so they are thought to have less ability and less intelligence to make the right decision. At the same time, they experience the system of inequality of having no symbolic rewards of being trust with the capability to make important decisions. The employer made the decision based on the stereotype of women being less capable.…

These questions have undoubtedly been answered beforehand by the sexist system. Apart from struggling against the sexism that employers have been contaminated with, victims will struggle with being underestimated, teased, and even harassed by other employees. Sadly, questions about the performance of a certain employee will arise- not because of poor performance, but because of doubting ability because of that person’s gender. Even though workplace discrimination been outlawed, the bitter effects of…

In today’s society, gender equality is not found everywhere. Women have faced all types of oppression over the years when trying to assume jobs and full gender equality. The Reign of the Feminist “True equality means holding everyone accountable in the same way, regardless of race, gender, faith, ethnicity - or political ideology.” (Monica Crowley). This is especially true for women are beginning to be a true power in this world, with women becoming CEO’S of companies, and running for major offices. People need to realize that times are changing in the twenty-first century for women and today feminism is required to be successful in job fields like politics where women are taking a stand and becoming more assertive, in the home where single mothers who work are still producing children who help society, and in the workplace, where women still need to make a stand to make the same pay and have gender equality.…

4 in 10 businesses worldwide do not even have women in senior management, which demonstrates that this gender discrimination happens in every continent. Employers are weary of hiring women because they question women’s commitment to their profession, thinking they will miss work due to family or pregnancy. Some male executives assume that because women are stereotypically gentle and compassionate, they would not be able to make tough decisions. However, this stereotype has been put to rest, because many females in leading positions tend to be harsh in order to prove to their male counterparts that they can get the job done. Being hired as a woman of colour is seemingly more difficult than that of a caucasian woman.…
