I anxiously looked out the window at the familiar sites: cows grazing, tractors roaring, and palmetto bushes gently swaying in the summer breeze. Then, the classroom door squeaked. A statuesque woman walked in, Mrs. Able, our new teacher. She smiled and immediately announced: “You can do anything in life, as long as you want to learn and care about others!” Mrs. Able, while not the last teacher to inspire me, was the first.…

A leader is an individual who can take charge in various situations, and do it effectively in a way which makes others follow them. Throughout my years, I have grown from being a primarily shy person to someone who is not afraid to step up and be the leader I am now. Today, I am able to consistently demonstrate what it is to be a leader in my daily life. Although coming into high school as a freshman was intimidating for me, I knew that in order to succeed, I needed to open up and try something new.…

That's the Merriam-Webster definition, but that seems far too simple a definition for a character who's actions and influences can reverberate for days, weeks or even generations to come. Often the word leader calls to mind a vision of Martin Luther King Jr., a military officer, or the President of the United States? A leader, in my opinion, is someone who leads a group with integrity, and with a passion to serve others. Leaders need to have values and character straits admirable to others.…

In the classroom, I am a leader because I continually have a positive attitude, am not afraid to challenge myself or others to improve to their full potential, and love studying hard.…
