SGT Shorts versatility and adaptability allowed him to be a great asset to Alpha Company, 86th Signal Battalion. He took part in over 50 plus missions as Driver and T/C to transport soldiers from site to site. This job required he conduct RECON for 5 sites as well as learn the routes to all sites. He was required to track important information in order to transport soldiers in and out of theatre. This helped Alpha Company, 86th Signal Battalion maintain their war fighting capabilities.

SGT Shorts, as a Communications and Electronics Team Leader, was required to oversee installation of several pieces of equipment. He installed an Antenna Control Unit and Uninterrupted Power Source. This installation alone allowed a Satellite Transportable
