My experiences in SCI 195A this semester taught by Ingrid Peterson and Dina Schwartz have been nothing less than extraordinary. Being a first semester freshman at a top university, such as the University of Arizona, is a tremendous culture shock even coming from a nationally ranked college preparatory school as I did. In SCI 195A, we discuss the methods of “taking controls of your time”. It is crucial to ponder the important activities in your life, and postpone the rest. College keeps your schedule booked via class, homework, and studying, but extracurricular activities and being socially stable are important aspects as well. Not only does this involve ways to improve your skill and knowledge for a test, but also to improve your mindset. We learned this semester that success on a test directly derives from studying strategies. The three preeminent studying strategies we learned are elaborative interrogation, self explanation, and the testing effect. Elaborative interrogation is creating possible explanations to a fact you are trying to memorize. Self explanation is creating an explanation for how a new piece of information is linked to information you have already learned. The testing effect is of course testing yourself on the material you are trying to memorize. Ways to execute this strategy are flashcards, group studying, and creating and taking practice

He gives three benefits when students get a college degree, and these benefits are: economically, politically, and intellectually educated. Now people are enrolling at colleges and they are trying to get good grades, but the technology is creating a wall between leaning and scoring grades. The big problem now is not how can…

Personally, college is a different environment compared to what high school students are used to. College teaches students to be more independent relying on ourselves to take care of our studies and learning process. Take High School for example. High School teachers will constantly remind students of deadlines for assignments while professors could care less if students missed the deadline. Because college students are considered more “mature”, students are required to manage their own time checking due dates for each class themselves.…

As with most things in life, tests are easier when someone first takes the necessary steps to prepare for them. A crucial component to preparing for a test is by incorporating successful strategies in order to study the test material. My study habits have been continuously refined throughout my tenure as both a high school student and then as a college student. For example, in high school, I used to just repeatedly read the study guide or notes until I felt that I was adequately prepared to take the exam or quiz. This was typically enough to help me obtain an A on the tests, but upon entering college, I was shocked about how different the tests were, and I forced myself to learn new strategies that would help me succeed in my endeavors.…
