My commitment and contribution to school activities began in my own schooling. As a student at school I was always looking for new programs and extra school activities to get involved with. In my final year alone I became a School Prefect, a House Co-Captain and a Platoon CUO. Whilst maintaining a high level of academic achievements, I also got involved with the school musicals, the Saturday Morning Sports program and was on the year 12 video committee. My passion for getting involved and committing to school activities has stayed with me in my transition to becoming a teacher. During practical placements and experiences I am always looking for other ways that I can contribute to the school community. I have had the opportunity to attend multiple Professional Development sessions throughout my placements within schools. I have been fortunate enough to attend multiple Professional Development sessions on literacy which have advanced my expertise in oral language, reading journals, writer’s notebooks, guided reading, running records, reading in the early years and VCOP (assessment and data tracking). These Professional Development sessions enabled me to further my teaching capacity in literacy by giving me practical and theoretical advice to implement into my teaching.
