Summary: The purpose of this experimental study was to figure out is if nursing students’ communication skills were influenced by skilled communication instruction (didactic vs didactic plus role-play) and determine if the type of communication instruction influences their performance. Undergraduate nursing students were evaluated on their performance using the standardized communication tool SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) recommended by the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals in order to improve the effectiveness of communication between caregivers. Summary: The purpose of this pilot study was to assess the effects of an occupational therapy role-play intervention on increasing social behaviors of adolescents with Asperger’s syndrome. All three participants were able to increase targeted social skills use from baseline to intervention and maintain the level at one month mark. All participants had similar flat baselines that sloped upward during the intervention phase, and remained stable and consistent during probe phases indicating that the intervention contributed to the desired change.
