S. Pyogenes

The organism that is commonly referred to as “Strep” is Streptococcus pyogenes. S. pyogenes is a facultative anaerobe: an aerobe that does not require oxygen for its metabolism and is capable of growth in the absence of it (Cowan & Talaro, 2009, p. 185). S. pyogenes is a prokaryote because it is an organism that has no nuclear membrane, no organelles in the cytoplasm except ribosomes, and has its genetic material in the form of single continuous strands forming coils or loops (“Classification,” n.d.). S. pyogenes is a gram-positive bacteria cocci in chains and it causes many diseases in humans, making it parasitic (“Classification,” n.d.). For optimal growth for this organism is 37°C, can be incubated between 1-2 days, and have a pH of 7.4 to 7.6. S. pyogenes can live in the pharynx, skin and rectum. According to John and Willett, they have a rigid cell wall, inner plasma membrane with microsomal vesicles, cytoplasmic ribosomes and a nucleoid. His parents didn’t find anything alarming so they treated the symptoms but when he gained a fever, he went to the medical facility where they gave him a bacterial test and it was negative. Therefore, it he was sent home but the pain continued and he was rushed to the hospital. He felt an array of pokes, prods and procedures to test for every disease including cancer. One of the tests that were positive was “Strep”. He was sent to the ICU for 6 weeks. During that time, he lost his toes due to the infected foot. Strep throat can be treated with Cefazolin, Clindamycin, Gentamycin, Penicillin, and Metronidazole. Alternatively, the doctor can have a surgical procedure where they cut away the infected necrotic tissues from the skin. There are no practical preventative measures to prevent the Strep
