Improved Essays
The S.E.T. Model is simple and easy to follow. This model has ten arrows: three are double sided and the others are single sided. When reading this model, a person is to read it from top to bottom, left to right, then right to left. This model is very helpful when a person is wanting to complete a particular behavior. This model only works if a person has the motivation to engage in this behavior.
I will now apply the S.E.T model to the behavior, which is encouraging women to get a mammogram each year. I will have Joy Hepkins, Registered Nurse, speak to our audience about how important it is for our women to get a mammogram every year. The population she will target will be women between the ages from 35 to 45 in Macomb, Illinois. The target

She would use mastery experience by explaining the process, breaking down the complex behavior into small steps for the audience to understand. Joy Hepkins would introduce Christiana Applegate to explain her experiences and how she dealt with breast cancer.
Christina Applegate would use vicarious experience. She would inform the audience about her experience with breast cancer and how she was surprised it happened to her at the age of 35. The three ladies would be from Macomb, Illinois.

No one told her how important it was to get a mammogram. She will explain how scared she was in the beginning. She has three children. She did not know who would take care of them if she were to pass away. She will say how much strength she gained after it was all

She would inform the audience about how the screenings are free of charge. The word free of charge would get our audiences attention. Free of the mammogram screenings will be offered to increase the chances for more people to get started. The screenings will only take ten minutes of their time after the presentation.
Joy will use Control Belief. Control Beliefs: Take control of this opportunity in getting a free mammogram. In some cases, mammogram are low cost in some states. If a person completes this behavior, “Control this disease, don’t let it control you.”
Joy will use Perceived Power. Perceived Power: They have the power to complete the behavior. A person must have confidence within themselves in order to gain power. In viewing the Stroke of Insight video I found the introduction of Dr. Bolte Taylor’s speech to be interesting, yet not attention grabbing initially. However, her ability to incorporable the different visual aids, such as the real life human brain and her brain scan, these tools she used helped to spark my interest, and further hold my attention to her topic of brain disorders that were effecting both her and her brother. After watching the video a few times and evaluating the different components that Dr. Bolte Taylor used within her communication, the Linear Model of Communication was used during Dr. Bolte Taylor’s speech. The Linear Model of Communication applies to this speech as the channel is one way communication, the sender sends the…

Others lack this privilege, and therefore are faced with the task of handling life's hurdles. Jenny, a character from Sinclair Ross’s “Circus in Town” and Chris Gardner, a real person featured in Jia Yang’s article “‘Happyness’ for Sale” both begin their lives in penurious situations, and both use optimism to cope with their hardships. Disney Pixar’s Inside Out itumblr_nghk32nKX61r0jajko1_250s a film that shows us how an ordinary event in life can take us through a remarkable emotional journey within ourselves. Frankly, Inside Out may be more effective in teaching the concept of Emotional Intelligence better than any psychology text. Emotional Intelligence (also called EQ) is our ability to understand our own emotions and the emotions of others. It’s what helps us differentiate between similar or confusing feelings (like when we think we are mad at someone, but realize we’re actually feeling hurt and sad). It’s how we use emotional information to guide our thinking and behavior (like when we’re scared and we need to get ourselves out of dangerous situations quickly).…

Life is seemingly going smoothly for Riley and her emotions.…
