S.E. Hinton’s World Famous Book “The Outsiders” was published on April 24, 1967. She started the book when she was 15 and finished it a year later. The book is about a group of teenagers who are dealing with Bad social situations at school and in the neighborhood. Because over 14 million copies of the book were sold, Director Francis Coppola helped S.E. Hinton bring her book to life. Doing so, she told the Director how she wanted it to go. In the book many details are discussed that are not shown/ talked about in the movie. In the book Ponyboy starts of at the movie theater. After that he is mugged by the socs. Lots of details are provided to show the build of the person and features. The book, to me, was better than the movie. The reason for this is because the book provides more information to enhance a better picture of the story in my mind. I think the book was bad because it did not give the effects that the movie did. I liked the movie because it had more of the story put into it detail wise. While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the movie was more effective in telling the story.…

Some of the similarities was that the movie had some of the same exact lines from the book such as, “I got a good chance of bein’ let off easy” (Hinton 87). Parts of the movie were exactly like the book. Including the time when Pony, Johnny, and Dally went to Dairy Queen and when Johnny got the food for them when They were at the church (Hinton 87-88). Another similarity is when both Ponyboy and Johnny watch the sunrise and Pony says out loud the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” (Coppola, The Outsiders). Some differences are that when they both start.…

A similarity between the book and movie is that I felt like Pony was going to die. I felt this way because Ponyboy was getting kicked and was all scratched up before Dally and Ponyboy went to the hospital. A difference between the book and the movie is that in the book “Dally half pulled Ponyboy down the street”, but in the movie Dally just picked up Ponyboy.…

After comparing and contrasting, The Outsider’s movie and the novel, I did have difficulty finding the similarities than differences. I enjoyed the novel more because it gave more in depth, where as in the movie it missed some important parts that I wished to look out for. If I were to rate, I would rate the novel 9 out of 10 and the movie 7 out of 10. However, I did like the movie in terms of the illustrations. It gave a better visual sense to imagine how each and very character looks like and to as what happened for a better understanding.…
