Shinigami’s, or gods of death, are supernatural spirits that invite humans toward death. The gods of death appear throughout the Japanese religion, in many different forms and names. For example, Izanami and Mrtyu-mara appear to make humans want to die, and they give them death ("Shinigami"). In the series Death Note, there are multiple Shinigami’s portrayed as giving humans the ability to die. Death Note 2015 is a well-known television series directed by Ryuichi Inomata, based on the manga written by Tsugumi Ohba. Overall Death Note is one of the top series from Japanese culture, teaching us what justice is. He later learns that if he writes anybody’s name in this notebook while thinking of their face, they will die according to what is put in the note, and nicknames himself Kira which means killer in English. In the case Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier, the question of whether a group of students’ rights under the first amendment are violated is asked. These students had written articles for their school newspaper, which they had then submitted for review to their advisor, who passed the articles on to the principal, Robert Reynolds. Reynolds found two articles concerning, and with the approval of his superiors, eradicated the two pages that these articles were on from that publication of the newspaper. The principal’s deletion of these articles did violate the students’ rights under the 1st Amendment.…

There have been several cases of In Cold Blood being brought to teacher and officials’ attention after parents discover what their children are responsible for reading. This was the case in one high school in Savannah, Georgia. In 1999 community protests began at Windsor Forest High School, when a parent complained about various aspects of In Cold Blood, especially the violence. The parent’s child was part of an Advanced Placement English class. Upset guardians and parents argued that the book was too violent for the young audience (Doyle 76).…

So, what i mean by that is that student will post things on their social media and think nobody can do anything about it. Students will post things on social media about another person behind their back and before they know it they are getting bullied or being laughed at. Students or teachers can be victims of cyberbullying.…

The use of censorship in society over time has become overused and the factors that should be used to determine censorship have become overlooked. Censoring has multiple benefits and is a great concept, however it is often taken to the extremes by the government, teachers, school boards and parents. Censorship should be based on possible issues, content and maturity of the audience. In the novel F451, Ray Bradbury composes a futuristic society where censorship is key and the government as well as society censors the idea of books and the knowledge within them. The factors that should be used to evaluate whether or not censorship should be used are not “Montag, take my word for it, I’ve had to read a few in my time, to know what I was about,…

The word “hero” has changed throughout the years and does no longer consist of a character with super powers nor having to perform the ideal rescue scene. In some books or films, the hero may not always be considered a hero to everyone. Some characters sometimes have to take matters into their own hands in order to bring justice like in the new film Death Note. Many films follow the same stages of the “hero’s journey” that are explained in the book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. In this film, Light Turner would be considered as the hero to most of the audience because he is bringing justice to those who deserve it even if it is with death.…

It is common for the concept of death to simply be associated with the end of things, but it is important to take into account the cycle in turn will begin again. When he was confused about it, Kiyama related life and death to the cycle in which insects go through saying, “It’s almost as if they are born to die.” (pg92) To a sense, he is right, but it also comes down to what the person or insect achieves in their lifetimes. Through the course of the book, the reader can see how Kiyama, Kawabe, and Yamashita go through the process of being scared of the unknown, to being able understand complex situations which in turn makes them into capable young adults no longer afraid of death and what comes with it, as well as life and how they will tackle…

Chris Crutcher argues in his article, “How They Do It”, that school systems should not become easily persuaded by the parents’ complaints to censor books that should be a part of the curriculum that their children benefit from due to the fact that the students can relate, learn, and build off of the books that are censored. Crutcher builds his argument throughout his article by including the use of personal anecdotes, pathos, and repetition. Due to the fact that Crutcher includes the use of personal anecdotes, he supports his argument. He builds his argument with the use of personal stories in hope to engage the readers.…

Since the dawn of the pen and pencil, literature has existed to communicate the human experience. There are countless numbers of books in the world, all of which drastically vary in content, size and quality. Despite all of the disparate traits between them, this drive to relay another’s view on life is shared among all literature. However, there are many individuals that seek to suppress these views by banning books from libraries and schools. This desire to ban and suppress an author’s interpretation could arise from a variety of factors: differing ideological viewpoints, aversion to graphic content, or a distaste of a book’s “offensive” subject matter to name a few.…
