Ryan Kramer Persuasive Speech Summary

Improved Essays
The speaker of this persuasive speech is Ryan Kramer, and he talks about the issues facing the U.S. with obesity. Ryan starts by telling the audience how recent this topic of discussion is, that in my opinion is his attention getter. I thought that it really wasn’t that successful, there wasn’t any pizazz or emphasis in his speech which made it boring; however, I know all of us taking this class are not experienced in speaking. Ryan does not tell the audience of any credibility, but is wearing a track and field shirt, that can make me believe he has some experience with the topic. I think he does a good job of previewing the speech in the introduction, because he starts with the problem of how the U.S. is obese. He does have a good transition by telling the audience a reason for this problem is, because of a lack of exercise and …show more content…
The notebook didn’t add anything, yet it let the audience know he was prepared and had done his research.
The speaker used a mix of delivery’s which I thought were extemporaneous and memorized. Because, Ryan had most of his speech memorized, but I could tell he wasn’t as prepared as he could have been.
I believe the speech was fairly effective, it definitely makes you care about your own physical health and really makes you think. Ryan was very good at remaining calm throughout the speech, also he did a phenomenal job with using examples in his speech. On the other hand, this speech would be much more effective if he showed enthusiasm in his tone of voice, and talked more about nutrition. Overall, I thought he did a good job with this topic. I would suggest that Ryan stands up during his speech, because I don’t believe there is ever a time when someone gives a speech and is sitting down. The best thing I saw from this, that I can incorporate into my own is using the opposing sides perspective and show ways to counter

In the speech, Phil Davison uses the fourth canon of Rhetoric (Delivery) clearly. He started the speech with good loud volume. He addressed his audiences clearly and introduced himself in a bold manner. He filled the room with his strong voice and covered the room. It also seems as if he had memorized the speech as he took a long pause before mentioning his master’s degree in communication.…

He then ends the speech trying to tie all this in to the current political climate, and talks about how if we can save ourselves we can save veterans. His speech while good was quite confusing as it constantly jumped from point to point, and he doesn’t signal his conclusion or really go over the points he covered, and how they connect. Some of the lessons I took from this speech are how to make subtle but important hand gestures like he did with his fist, that talking with a calm but strong voice is very effective at holding audience attention, that short pauses can be good for collecting your thoughts, and that when speaking to an audience try to move towards where you’re making eye contact, so the audience member feels like you’re talking to them…

Ted Cruz is back at it again making headlines again. Everyone believed that John Kasich would collaborate to bring down Mr. Trump. Be that as it may, to everybody's surprised Cruz formally named Carly Fiorina as his vice presidential running mate Wednesday a last-ditch move to regain momentum after being mathematically eliminated from winning the GOP presidential nomination outright. Fiorina joined the Texas senator on stage, and Cruz's staff changed the podium in between Cruz and Fiorina's remarks to display a new logo featuring both their names. Fiorina told CNN in an interview the "real formal final conversation" between the two of them regarding the vice presidential decision happened Tuesday All Ted Cruz is attempting to do is recapture the narrative and keep him relevant.…

I watched a speech online via TED talk, and the title of the speech is “Why gun violence can’t be our normal” delivered by Dan Gross who is a gun control activist. He delivered a really good persuasive speech with good ethos, pathos and logos to make sure that people follow his idea to end gun violence in America. He used warrant of the heart where he presented ethos, pathos and also I-logos. He tried to move his audience to end gun violence by making a personal claim. He provided a vivid example by asking the audiences to imagine a certain condition, create commonality, and many more.…

I think that his intentions with the speech are to clarify and, like I said earlier, to motivate the audience, and make them believe that they can do it, if they work for it. In the end he says, “people don’t expect the government to solve all their problems”, so he talks on behalf of them, which makes them unite and unconsciously agree with him. In that way I think his intentions worked pretty well, and that people really did feel inspired, because he related to them with his story, like I know I…

He starts of using a passive approach, by using an anecdote about himself being young, with no joy in his heart. This really allows his audience to feel his pain and really open up their hearts to what he is about to say. While watching the speech live you can observe and feel the emotions around the room. Everyone is intensely listening and paying attention to every single word being said. His tone is very sorrowful, there is no anger in his voice there is no suspense it’s a monotone glum voice.…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…
