The reasons why women seek abortion as an option is typically tied to their socioeconomic status; intrinsically related to their financial status, relationship status, and the number of children they already have (Biggs 2013). House Bill 22 passed through Texas’s General Assembly in 2013, which made it extremely difficult for women seeking an abortion to find care. In fact, this bill was responsible for closing more than half of all abortion clinics in the state. The Supreme Court reversed this bill when they found it to be in violation of the Constitution, however, it still did significant damage to many women’s lives. One study found that women in Texas faced a burden when it came to the “informational, cost, and logistics” of acquiring an abortion, and these were often “compounded by poverty” (Baum 2016). The women in Indiana who are most at risk for situations that would cause them to need a safe abortion, will be who is most impacted negatively by a bill completely banning abortion. Ultimately, women who are of a high socioeconomic status will be more able to find a safe legal abortion out of state than those who are of a lower socioeconomic
