After a few more questioning and cross-questionings, both attorneys rested. “May the disputing parties, please rise,” instructed the judge. “In this case of Mr. Ryan Canter versus Ms. Patra Canter, by the State of New Jersey, and the powers vested in me, I hereby grant you your divorce.” Judge Leona Pyle paused, then wiped a trickle of sweat from her forehead, adjusts her glasses, and continued to read the decree of the court ruling. “The court will award the five thousand square-foot home in Jackson, the two children, Sharon and Ryan Jr., the Bentley and the Jaguar and half of the CanterSoft Company . . . to Ms. Patra Canter.” A great out-cry erupted from the courtroom and Ryan Canter, too. He attempted to interrupt the judge, but she fired back. “Quiet please! You had your say Mr. Canter. Please don’t interrupt me again, sir,” said the judge. “I listened to what you both had to say. I didn’t interrupt. Now it’s my turn to speak, thank you.” The verbal commotion still echoed in the courtroom. “Order in this court!” Judge Leona Pyle banged her gavel five to six times, before she brought about some sense of calm in the courtroom. “Mr. Canter, one more word from you, sir, and I’ll have you held in contempt of court.” Laughter erupted everywhere in the courtroom. “Order, order in this court,” she continued. “The Mercedes 500 SL and ML320, the vacation home in the Pocono’s, and the other half of CanterSoft go to you, Mr. Canter.” She raised her head, took her glasses off, and looked both parties in the eyes and said. “I wish you both the best of luck. This case is adjourned!” Patra Canter looked at her now ex-husband and smiled, then she hugged her lawyer. After that, she looked at her relatives in the courtroom and raised both hands in the air as a sign of victory.
