Rwanda 1990
There were two groups in Rwanda that did not get along at all. One group were the Hutus which were 85% of the Rwanda’s population. The other group were the RPF (Tutsis) which were minority ,but had long dominated Rwanda for many years. “In just 100 days in 1994, some 800,000 people were slaughtered in Rwanda by ethnic Hutu extremists.”.(Par 1) This had caused the Tutsis to fled away from the country. The event that really struck the genocide was the plane being shot down that President Juvenal Habyarimana was in and Hutus immediately blamed the Tutsis for this attack. This gave the Hutus a reason to start a well-organized campaign of slaughter. The Tutsis had said they …show more content…
This had caused so much conflict because the President was on this plane. For example, in the article it says, “Hutu extremists blamed the RPF and immediately started a well-organized campaign of slaughter.”(Par 3). This gave the Hutus the opportunity to blame the Tutsi for this attack. This gave the Hutus a reason to start a genocide and no other country would interfere because the Tutsis would have deserved it. So this allowed the Hutus to go on a killing spree without anything or anyone stopping them. This process helped them take over Rwanda from the Tutsis that have always overpowered Rwanda. The Tutsis had another part of the story that if it was heard could have saved many …show more content…
This was to help them take out the Tutsis from Rwanda without having no interference because the United States was very close to stepping in. For example, in the article it says, “The RPF said the plane had been shot down by Hutus to provide an excuse for the genocide.”(Par 3). This examples helps me show that there were two sides of the story and if people would have went with the Tutsis story lives could have been saved. Many lives were taken because people believed the Hutus story which allowed them to cover up why they were killing people and why they started the genocide. If the United States did get involved could the outcome have been different in a good way or a bad way. The United States was very close to getting involved with what was happening in Rwanda at the time. The only reason why they decided not to get involved is because recently some troops were killed that were in Rwanda. For example, in the article it says, “(Par 5)...the US was determined not to get involved in another African conflict.”. So if the United States were to get involved could they have helped figure out some sort of peace treaty or even at least reduce some of the lives that were lost. The story of the view of a Hutu is not very persuasive on how he had saw things happening at the
