“In Rwanda one person's God is another persons Satan.” - Karl Maier. That quote from Karl Maier best explains the situation of war that took place in Rwanda from October 1st, 1990 to August 4th, 1993. The war continued into a horrible genocide/massacre until July, 1994. The Rwanda Civil War took place within the central African nation of the country. The dispute was between the President Juvenal Habyarimana, a Hutu, and the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF). Entire families were killed at a time. Women were raped and murdered. The war did not end until the Tutsi-dominated rebel group, the RPF defeated the Hutu regime and President Paul kagame took control. It is unimaginable that no one stepped in to help the innocent. It is unimaginable that the world stood by while killings worse than the Nazi's happened. Politics and politicians started this war. People were led to do unimaginable crimes in the disguise of war and a country and its people were ruined because of it all. We are all humans, we all breathe the same air, we all have hearts. Mass, unjustified killings should never happen. We must pay attention to our world and remember Rwanda so that we remember to respect not
