Rutledge: A Letter To My Father

Dear Rutledge, I know I’m only a teenager and teenagers aren’t usually associated with wisdom, but I’ve gone through a hand share of life lessons in my life. I’ve come to learn life isn’t about how many friends you have or how many people you know,but instead about how to fill your life with the characters that really matter. Emmy winning actor, Michael J. Fox once said “Family is not a important thing. Its everything.” My father intergrated that motto in my head since I was a toddler. In Some families things you live by gets passed down from generations to generations, not in my dad’s case. His father never told him this. So when it came time for my dad to go out in the real world, he went everywhere his friends went. The year was 1985, …show more content…
Remember that third amigo well he’s back. My family through a house party in spirits of the newly purchased home. He invited his boys that were on this adventure with him, thinking they would be happy of their growth. Little did he know, that third amigo was on a mission to tear my dad down. Months pass, life going as smooth as possible, until his two boys decided to kick my dad out of the business because his english wasn't getting better. My dad came to this country with his childhood friends that was with him for over twenty year thinking that they had his back. My dad learned the hard way that friends aren’t family. As most teenagers, there screensaver consist of them and their friend group, not me. I have a picture of me and my family. I carry this on my screensaver and in my head, to remind me that there's no one like your family. Without having them as my screensaver I would be like most teenagers, only caring about popularity. The photo is a consistent reminder of what really is important in life. Family isn’t just the people you live with or the people who could mostly annoy you, but really it’s the people you can fall back on when life goes
