The tires screeched and squealed as Russel pressed his foot hard on the gas pedal. Smoke billowed out as the black car shot forward, quickly disappearing in the darkness of the winter night.
Emily sobbed quietly in the faint light of her front porch. She kept to herself as she retreated back into the safety of her own bedroom. The dying hours of her night were spent tossing and turning, filled with too much fear to sleep.
Russel couldn’t help but contemplate the events of the previous hours. The silence of the night was pierced only by the sound of the overworked and probably overheated engine. He kept his right foot firmly to the floor as he continued to his destination.

He had spent many summers here. Russel’s mind filled with the memories of his childhood as he broke down the front door. The memories he cherished so much would become tarnished with his mistakes.
