Russell Westbrook is one of the top players in the league at the moment and is only going to get better. His name has been in the news recently because of Kevin Durant’s decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors. This is important because this upcoming year is the last season on Westbrook’s contract with OKC, after that he is a free agent. There has been reports that Westbrook has made it evident that he will not be resigning with OKC, so it’s OKC’s best interest to trade him. There are many places that he could be traded to, but one of the more prominent names that is being talked about is the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately for OKC, teams that are willing to trade for Westbrook will only trade for him if they know that they can resign him for a multi-year deal. The Boston Celtics have the capability to trade for Westbrook, but there has been no know talk of Westbrook wanting to join the Celtics side. If OKC is smart about this, they will be looking for draft picks because even though they might want a championship next year, they won’t get it unless they get big names in the draft. If the Lakers were going to trade for Westbrook, they would need to give up a lot. They would most likely give up future draft picks and one to two of their most recent draft picks, meaning a player like D’Angelo Russell or Jordan Clarkson. The Lakers might not have to do that though because Westbrook only has one more year on his contract with OKC. If OKC can’t trade him to a team because he is unwilling to make an agreement with that team on a big contract, he would just play out that one year with OKC and become a free agent in 2017. Come the off-season of 2017, this will be time that the Lakers cannot strike out in free agency. The Lakers will most likely be favorites for Westbrook, but if they can’t get him, they will have to try to get a player like Stephen Curry or Blake
