Among the many California-related films on the list, I chose the “Rush Hour” because it was one of the series of movies I had enjoyed watching it when I was young. The film's main story is about the process of finding Chinese Consul’s kidnapped daughter by Detective Carter and Lee and incidents happening along the processes. Throughout the film, it suggested lots of different images about the California. Although there are lots of images that are shown in the film like there are lots of traffics in the city, LAPD’s are “most hated cops in all the free world,” (Rush Hour) as well as there are lots of tourists in the city. There are two main characters in "Rush Hour,” and they are distinctively different characters. One is a black man who speaks English, and the other is a Chinese man from China. The two characters, which were so different from each other, did not fit well at first, but slowly became friends and became "partners." However, these things in the movie that did not stood out or played important role in the film, yet it represented big part of the Los Angeles, California. The weather and the music portrayed the Los Angeles, California as very bright and upbeat place to live. The running time of the film is 98 minutes, and during those 98 minutes the weather of the Los Angeles was bright and sunny. It never rained or thundered or snowed, Carter’s convertible car was always wide open to feel California’s beautiful sunshine. Not only the weather spoke the image of the bright California, but the music that were introduced in the film also spoke the same line. For example, Chinese Consul’s daughter singing to Mariah Carey’s Fantasy, Lee turn on the radio and listening to Beach boys song, or Lee and Carter dancing to song called “What is it good for.” Even though the lyrics tell all sorts of different stories, one common thing among these songs is that it is all the music is upbeat and gives happy vibes when listening to it.
