The community is always people friendly. In the case study, apparently, the people were very helpful and selfless. They look out for one another, and they were very warm and welcoming. Their main goal was to keep themselves, each other and the new sheriff safe. Rather than letting the sheriff figure out things, they fill him in on who, and where he should watch out for. This shows they genuinely cared about their surroundings and those around them. The community does play a significant role regarding rural policing for, they shine a light on the fact, that police officers are not bad people; it is just the environment they are placed in and the type of people they must deal with, that gives them a bad reputation. Once you change the social setting to a more people friendly environment, you will find police officers more pleasant. In references to Carl in the case study, while working in the urban city, he would have seen has a tough cop, and was probably hated by a few, especially those who did criminal activities and expect the police to look passed it. However, when he became a cop in the rural community, there was not much crime committing because everyone was living together peacefully and they were willing to help one another, of their caring nature and helpfulness, serious crimes rarely committed.
