Rural Action is a local organization that foster social, economic, and environmental justice in Appalachian Ohio; it encourage people knowing and protecting our environment. They have many programs that help people to seek the beauty and the value of the environment, such as the Appalachian Green Teachers Project (AGTP). Instead of studying science in the classroom, Rural Action will sent some professional teachers to some schools and bring the students to the real world. This program take off the disconnection between the children and the environment. For this reason, this report will focus on the AGTP. Our data were provided three employees of Rural Action and the website of the Rural action.
Impacts of students: From our studies of the video which was placed on the official website, the woman who work for the Rural Action said there are disconnection between children and the environment, so they hope to provide some chances to let children interact with the …show more content…
AGTP can give chances to students to connecting with the environment.
• Those teachers that Rural Action sent were professional, they can provide more accurate information about the environment to students.
• This program is benefic for children, not only built the relationship between children and nature, but also advantageously for their study.
Free for students: The Appalachian Green Teachers Project (AGTP) is free, students and schools do not need to pay for this project.
• Most of schools in Ohio have not specific money for science study.
• Ohio environment education fund give $45,000 to Rural Action to build 5 Hands-on projects, so schools do not need to pay.
• Ohio state is not a wealthy area of the country, in order to make everyone has chance to attend this meaningful activity, Rural Action do charge people money for this
